2009 RAPPAPORT FELLOW MEGHANN BURKE

NAME: Meghann Burke
YEAR: 2009
SCHOOL: Northeastern University School of Law
INTERNSHIP: Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development

Meghann Burke is currently a third year student at Northeastern University School of Law, where her interest in labor and workforce issues affecting women and racial minorities crystallized through her experience as a Lawyering Fellow in the Legal Skills in a Social Context program. A graduate of Saint Louis University, she has interned during law school with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office in the Civil Rights Division and the Honorable Reginald C. Lindsay of the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts. Prior to attending law school, Meghann developed her skills in coalition building as the project coordinator of a unique effort to bring professional soccer franchises with an integrated youth system to the St. Louis area. Meghann’s interest in employment and labor law grew out of her experiences as an activist for civil and human rights campaigns and as an organizer for political campaigns. Meghann played soccer professionally in the United States and England, most recently while in law school for the Boston Renegades, a semi-professional team. Meghann will spend the summer developing a proposal for the use of ARRA funds to create pre-apprenticeship training opportunities for women and racial minorities. She and her partner, Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, were married last year. They live with their hound dog, Otis, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
