After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Washington in 1996, she volunteered with Americorps for a year of national service. During that year she worked with the Youth Tutoring Program, an after school academic enrichment center for low-income, high-risk students in Seattle public housing. Since entering law school, Jessyn has been active in the BCLS chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, coordinating a discussion series on topics such as reparations for Japanese Americans and victims of the Tulsa race riot, the death penalty, and school vouchers. She spent last summer working for the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions where she created environmentally sensitive highway design guidelines for rural roads in Massachusetts. Her professional interests include transportation funding and equity issues, and international trade agreements and their impact on domestic decision-making. In her spare time she likes cycling and studying languages. Her summer internship is with Alternatives for Community and Environment in Roxbury, where she is focusing on environmental justice issues and transportation policy. |
