| Shalanda Baker just completed her first year at Northeastern University School of Law. Prior to law school, Shalanda worked in the San Francisco Bay Area as the head of Recruitment and Human Resource Management for Partners in School Innovation (PSI), an organization partnered with urban schools to help bridge the achievement gap. After leaving PSI, Shalanda interned at the College Preparatory School in Oakland, California, where her focus was primarily upon helping students and faculty to deepen their understanding of diversity issues and the systemic barriers to student success.
Shalanda is a 1998 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and a former Air Force officer. She is committed to educating the public about the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy and the issues facing gay and lesbian military members, and is a public speaker for the Servicemember's Legal Defense Network (SLDN). This summer, Shalanda's internship is with the Center for Law and Education, where she will be engaging the policy issues facing students, parents and schools under "No Child Left Behind," and helping to develop legislation for an Education Bill of Rights. |
