| Silvia Shin just completed her first year at Boston College Law School. Prior to law school, Silvia worked as a policy analyst for the City of New York's Administration for Children's Services (ACS). At ACS, Silvia helped implement a new placement and permanency initiative - the Top 12 Outcome and Indicators - that focused on providing each agency with a specific assessment of their services so that they would be able to gauge their performance against other agencies as well as the City as a whole. In addition, Silvia twice published, as a secondary author, the City mandated Status Report - Outcome and Performance Indicators, an annual citywide quantitative assessment of the status of child welfare as measured against performance criteria. As a Rappaport Fellow, Silvia will be working this summer at the Pioneer Institute, a policy think tank, at its Center for Urban Entrepreneurs. More specifically, her interest in urban renewal is the dynamics of raising capital to help provide low-income entrepreneurs with the opportunity to launch their start-up business, creating tax-incentives to attract businesses to economically deprived areas, and ensuring that community residents are incorporated into the renewal plans so that they too benefit from the revitalization. Silvia graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Psychology and from Duke University with a Master in Public Policy. Silvia is an outdoor enthusiast and is an avid runner, hiker, and snowboarder. |
