| Lyn Huckabee is in her second year in the Suffolk University Law School evening program. Lyn holds a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. Before law school, she sold energy services for Johnson Controls and Siemens Building Technologies. At work, she discovered the connection between technological advancement and public climate. Lyn currently works in Energy Efficiency at the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources (DOER). This summer, she will assist the DOER legal staff by drafting policy statements and regulations for the market based trading of public benefits in the energy sector. In addition to work and school, she is also an active volunteer with the Junior League, and a board member of the Boston Younger Women’s Task Force.
SUMMER EXPERIENCE
I participated in the development of the MassEfficiency funded program (http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=pressreleases&agId=Agov3&prModName=gov3pressrel ease&prFile=agov3_pr_070330_cambridge_energy.xml). The fund was created to allow Massachusetts municipalities to create a neighborhood based strategy to implement and finance energy efficiency initiatives in both public and private buildings. I analyzed the structure of the Cambridge Energy Alliance (http://www.cambridgeenergyalliance.org) which served as the model for MassEfficiency, tracked the progress of the 2nd municipal program in Boston, and generated the project scope for the state sponsored program. This summer I learned about the variety of finance options for government sponsored energy projects, the process of municipal requests for state funds, and the practical and legal issues surrounding state involvement in the upgrades of private building infrastructure.
