| Jason Burrell worked on several cutting edge issues in education law during his time at the DOE. He examined the department’s regulatory role in overseeing controversial behavioral modification treatments in schools, researched liability under federal special education law, and crafted an advisory on proper hiring for school districts. He also helped prepare the department for hearings and settlement discussions on employment discrimination and teacher licensure and misconduct disputes.
"Since working at the department, I have realized that the legislative, policy, and academics sides of education law—and not necessarily the direct administrative oversight of education or individual cases of students—appeal to me most. This has given me a richer understanding of administrative agencies, several avenues of dispute resolution, and the various ways that law and education intersect. The fellowship allowed me to pursue areas of interest that otherwise might not have been available." |
